InterContinental Bangkok Review – Why I Keep Coming Back
After a quick trip to Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, I was back in Bangkok and checking into the InterContinental Bangkok.
One of the biggest reasons I keep returning to this hotel is its fantastic location. It sits directly across the road from CentralWorld shopping mall and is just a short walk from the Erawan Shrine. Chit Lom BTS station is also right outside, making it incredibly easy to get around Bangkok without having to deal with the city's traffic.
This was my fourth stay at the InterContinental Bangkok, so I already knew the hotel quite well and was looking forward to returning.
Booking
I booked my three-night stay using IHG One Rewards points, paying an average of 42,000 points per night, or 126,000 points for the three-night stay.
Considering the location of the hotel and the experience I received during my stay, I was happy with the redemption.
Lobby

Walking into the hotel through the main entrance, you'll find the check-in counters directly ahead and to the right.
As an IHG One Rewards Diamond Ambassador member, and with Club InterContinental access through my 40-night Annual Lounge Membership Milestone Reward, I was directed upstairs to Club InterContinental on the 37th floor for check-in.
The process was fast and efficient, and I was offered a drink while the staff took care of the paperwork. It's a much more relaxing way to check in than standing at a busy front desk.

The Lobby Lounge is located to the left as you enter through the hotel's main entrance. In the evening, there is live music, making it a nice place to have a drink without having to leave the hotel.

With its floor-to-ceiling glass, the lobby is bright and open, with plenty of comfortable seating. It's a great place to relax for a while and do a little people-watching.

My Room – 3406
I had booked a Classic Room using IHG One Rewards points. As a Diamond Ambassador member, I received an upgrade to a room on a higher floor and was assigned Room 3406.

The King Room was very spacious. As you enter, the bathroom is on the left, with the main bedroom opening up beyond it.
The king-size bed takes centre stage, with a table and chair nearby. There isn't an actual dedicated desk in this room, so the table also serves as the main workspace.
The room also has a small sofa and glass-top coffee table. Waiting for me on the table was a full ice bucket along with my welcome treats — a nice touch and a good way to start the stay.

There was also a coffee machine in the room, making it easy to have a coffee without having to head downstairs or up to the lounge.

Welcome Treats
Waiting in the room when I arrived were my welcome treats.

It's a small detail, but these little touches are something I appreciate, especially when returning to a hotel I've stayed at several times before.
Club InterContinental
One of the highlights of this stay was having access to Club InterContinental, located on the 37th floor.
My Club access wasn't part of the room I had booked. Instead, I had access through the Annual Lounge Membership I selected after reaching 40 nights with IHG One Rewards.
For anyone who stays frequently with IHG, this can be an extremely useful benefit, particularly at a hotel such as the InterContinental Bangkok where the Club lounge adds considerably to the overall experience.
The lounge is very spacious, and the large windows allow plenty of natural light into the room. Being so high above the city also means you get some fantastic views across Bangkok.

It's the kind of lounge where I could easily sit for a couple of hours with a drink and simply watch Bangkok below.

Breakfast at Club InterContinental
Breakfast at Club InterContinental is a great way to start the day.
During my stay, the lounge was nearly empty in the mornings, so everything felt very relaxed and the service was top-notch.
Add in those views from the 37th floor and it's difficult to think of a much better way to start a day in Bangkok.

In addition to the buffet selection, there was a menu with freshly prepared breakfast dishes.

For breakfast, I started with the fresh fruit yogurt, followed by the grilled mini breakfast steak with eggs over easy.
The steak was cooked to a perfect medium-rare, exactly as I had requested, and was served with small roasted potatoes and tomatoes.
It was wonderful.

Those Bangkok Views
Of course, part of the appeal of having breakfast or spending time in Club InterContinental is the view.

Of course, part of the appeal of having breakfast or spending time in Club InterContinental is the view.

Bangkok is a city I never get tired of looking at from above, and the 37th-floor location of Club InterContinental provides a fantastic vantage point.

Oasis Swimming Pool
The hotel's rooftop Oasis swimming pool is another nice place to escape for a while.
After spending time exploring the busy streets of Bangkok, the pool provides somewhere to relax away from the traffic, noise and smells of the city below.

Bottled water was provided by the pool.

Club InterContinental Evening Cocktails & Canapés
Later in the day, Club InterContinental offers evening cocktails and canapés.
There was a menu showing the evening canapé selections.

One of the drinks I tried was The Missing Loch Ness.

The evening food included a mushroom cream soup followed by roasted duck breast.

Just like breakfast, the evening food was beautifully presented, and the lounge staff provided excellent service throughout.
Final Thoughts.
As I mentioned at the beginning, this was my fourth stay at the InterContinental Bangkok, and there's a reason I keep coming back.
For me, the location is almost perfect. CentralWorld is directly across the road, there are numerous other shopping malls within walking distance, and having Chit Lom BTS station just outside makes getting around Bangkok incredibly easy.
But location isn't the only reason I return.
I've always found the staff at the InterContinental Bangkok go out of their way to take care of their guests, and this stay was no exception. From the moment I arrived at Club InterContinental for check-in, the staff did everything they could to make my stay enjoyable.
My Diamond Ambassador status provided the high-floor room upgrade, while my 40-night Annual Lounge Membership gave me access to Club InterContinental. Together, those benefits added considerably to the value of this points stay.
Club InterContinental continues to be one of my favourite parts of this hotel. The staff are excellent, the views from the 37th floor are fantastic, and I could easily sit in the lounge for hours just admiring Bangkok from above.
The food is another highlight. Both breakfast and the evening canapés were prepared and presented beautifully, with my steak and eggs at breakfast being one of the standout meals of my stay.
After four visits, the InterContinental Bangkok continues to deliver the kind of experience that keeps me coming back.
I'm already looking forward to my next trip to Bangkok — and another stay at the InterContinental Bangkok.
