The Westin Grande Sukhumvit Bangkok Review: My Stay in a One-Bedroom Suite

After arriving in Bangkok on my Qatar Airways flight from Doha and finally collecting my luggage, it was time to head into the city.
From Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, the taxi ride to The Westin Grande Sukhumvit took about 45 minutes.
After the long journey from Toronto through Doha, including two Qatar Airways Business Class flights and my Discover Doha tour, I was definitely ready to get to the hotel and relax.
The Westin Grande Sukhumvit Location
One of my favourite things about The Westin Grande Sukhumvit is its location.
The hotel is just a short walk from both the Asok BTS Skytrain station and Sukhumvit MRT station, making it very easy to get around Bangkok without relying on taxis or sitting in the city's sometimes terrible traffic.
But for me, there's another big advantage.
Terminal 21 shopping mall is right next door.
I've always enjoyed Terminal 21, so being able to walk out of the hotel and have the mall practically on the doorstep is a huge plus. Between the BTS, MRT, restaurants, shopping and nightlife around Sukhumvit, it's difficult to find a much more convenient location in Bangkok.
Arriving at The Westin Grande Sukhumvit
The hotel's entrance is at street level, but the main hotel areas are above the busy streets of Sukhumvit.
After making my way to check-in, I received some very good news.
I had been upgraded to a one-bedroom suite, Room 1024.
After travelling all the way from Toronto, that was a very nice surprise.
Heading to Room 1024
When I stepped off the elevator on the 10th floor, the atmosphere immediately became much quieter than the busy Sukhumvit streets outside.
From there, it was a short walk down the hallway to Room 1024 and my home for the stay.
My One-Bedroom Suite at The Westin Grande Sukhumvit
When I opened the door to Room 1024 and saw the size of the living room, I knew immediately that I was going to enjoy this upgrade.
The separate living room had plenty of space, with a comfortable sofa, glass-topped desk and large television.
This was exactly the kind of room I wanted after such a long journey. There was enough space to spread out, sit on the sofa and relax without having to spend all my time in the bedroom.
Between the desk and the separate seating area, the suite would also work very well if you needed to get some work done during a longer stay.
Welcome Amenity and Coffee
As I made my way toward the bedroom, I found a welcome tray with fresh fruit waiting for me.
The room also had a Nespresso machine with a selection of coffee, along with bottled water.
After travelling for as long as I had, having coffee readily available in the room was definitely appreciated.
The Bedroom
The separate bedroom had a king-size Westin bed, and there was plenty of room around it.
I've always found Westin beds very comfortable, and after flying halfway around the world, this one looked particularly inviting.
Having a completely separate bedroom was probably my favourite part of the upgrade. It made the room feel much more like a small apartment than a regular hotel room, especially with the separate living area.
The Bathroom
The suite also came with a large bathroom.
There was a separate walk-in shower and bathtub, along with plenty of counter space.
The bathroom was stocked with the familiar Westin White Tea toiletries, including shampoo, conditioner and body lotion.
Overall, I thought the bathroom was a good size and worked very well with the rest of the suite.
The Swimming Pool
The Westin Grande Sukhumvit also has an outdoor swimming pool, which provides a nice escape from the heat and activity of Bangkok.
There are loungers around the pool where you can relax, and it's a nice place to spend some time without having to leave the hotel.
With Bangkok's heat, having a pool to come back to after spending a few hours walking around the city is always a welcome feature.
Service That Stood Out
There was one other part of my stay that I thought was worth mentioning.
I wasn't staying at The Westin Grande Sukhumvit for my entire time in the region. I was heading off to Kuala Lumpur and Singapore before returning to Bangkok, when I would be staying at the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit.
The bell staff at The Westin were extremely helpful and arranged to move my suitcase over to the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit so it would be there when I returned from my trip.
It was a relatively simple thing, but it made travelling to Kuala Lumpur and Singapore much easier because I didn't have to take all of my luggage with me.
Those are the kinds of little things I remember when deciding whether I would return to a hotel.
Final Thoughts on The Westin Grande Sukhumvit
I really enjoyed my stay at The Westin Grande Sukhumvit Bangkok.
The upgrade to the one-bedroom suite certainly helped, but even without the upgrade, I think the location is one of the hotel's biggest strengths.
Having Terminal 21 next door and both the BTS Skytrain and MRT within a short walk makes getting around Bangkok incredibly convenient. You can explore much of the city without having to deal with Bangkok traffic every time you leave the hotel.
Room 1024 gave me plenty of space, the Westin bed was comfortable, and the separate living room made the suite a great place to relax after travelling from Toronto.
I was also impressed by the bell staff and their willingness to help move my luggage to the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit while I travelled to Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. That kind of service made the stay even better.
Would I stay at The Westin Grande Sukhumvit again? Absolutely.
For me, the combination of the location, easy access to public transportation, Terminal 21 next door and the service I received makes this a hotel I would happily return to when I'm in Bangkok.
But for now, my time at The Westin was over. Next up was a flight to Kuala Lumpur, followed by Singapore, before eventually returning to Bangkok and checking into the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit.
