Location & First Impressions

The Westin Ottawa boasts an enviable location in the heart of the city, just steps from Parliament Hill and directly connected to the Rideau Centre. Whether you’re in town for business or leisure, you’ll appreciate the convenience of being able to walk to Ottawa’s most iconic landmarks and shopping destinations.

Arrival & Check-In Experience

Upon entering the hotel, guests are greeted by a modern, airy lobby filled with natural light. The check-in counter is located to the right, but unfortunately, both of my stays were marred by slow service. On my first visit, only one staff member was available, resulting in a long wait for myself and several other guests. This initial impression set a disappointing tone for the stay.

Lobby & Ambience

The lobby itself is a highlight, blending modern elegance with a welcoming atmosphere. High ceilings and expansive windows create a bright, open space, while contemporary furnishings and plush seating areas invite guests to relax or socialize. Artistic touches, including local artwork and stylish lighting, add character and reflect Ottawa’s rich cultural heritage.

Rooms & Amenities

The rooms at the Westin Ottawa are comfortable and well-appointed, featuring the brand’s signature queen beds and thoughtful amenities. You’ll find a welcome message upon arrival, along with essentials like coffee, water, and an ice bucket. The bathrooms are stocked with Westin’s North 39° body soap, shampoo, and conditioner, as well as the refreshing white tea soap and body lotion—perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring the city.

Views & Surroundings

One of the standout features of this hotel is the breathtaking view. Many rooms overlook the Rideau Canal and Parliament Hill, offering a picturesque backdrop that truly enhances the stay. The proximity to Ottawa’s top attractions, including the Royal Canadian Mint, makes it easy to explore the city on foot.

Challenges During My Stays

While the location and amenities are impressive, my experiences at the Westin Ottawa were not without issues. During my first stay, the check-in process was frustratingly slow due to understaffing at the front desk. On my second visit, a wedding party on the top floor created significant noise that echoed several floors down, making it difficult to enjoy a peaceful evening. Although hotel management assured us that the DJ responsible would not be returning, the noise persisted until around 2 a.m., impacting our comfort.

Final Thoughts

Despite some service shortcomings, the Westin Ottawa’s unbeatable location and modern comforts make it a convenient choice for visitors. The direct connection to the Rideau Centre and easy access to Parliament Hill and other attractions are definite highlights. However, I hope the hotel addresses its staffing and event management to ensure a more consistently enjoyable experience for all guests.
